Shabby, Funky, & Fun Makeover

During my last trip to see my Sister, we found an adorable antique store, and hit the jackpot!
The adorable little piece on the left with the mirror, inspired a makeover for a piece of furniture I had stored in my garage.  I needed more storage in the Master Bedroom, and this adorable mirror gave me an idea!
As soon as I got back home, I pulled this piece out of the garage.
The poor thing was just sitting out in the garage getting junk piled on top of it.  This was given to my husband and I by his Grandmother, and I just couldn't find a use for it in this house.  Until now!!
I usually paint my furniture with a brush, but this time, I decided to try spray painting.  It went pretty quick, and worked out good.  I did however, brush paint on the top to give it a good smooth finish.  Then, I went to work distressing the piece.  I was trying to match the mirror I bought at the antique shop.  After I brought it in the house and put the mirror on top, I ended up distressing even more.  I used sand paper, and I also used the back side of a hammer to add some scrapes.
I was happy with how it turned out, and could have added new knobs, and been finished.  But, I had seen a piece at a furniture store (out of my price range) and I thought I would try to do something similar.  So, I started gathering "junk".  Some of the things I already had, and some of the things I got on sale at Hobby Lobby.  Then came the assembly.

I used a mixture of frames, and other items.  I also got new knobs.  I applied E6000 glue on the backs of all of the items.  Some of the items had to be screwed to, or nailed to the doors and drawers.  The door on the far right is layered with a piece of metal, a jewelry hanger from Hobby Lobby, and the flower on the front is a magnet I already had.  The round piece on the bottom drawer was a lid to a little storage box.  I removed the glass and backs from all of the frames before I attached them.  Somehow, it all came together.  It took trial and error, and a lot of thought.  I had lots of fun.
I love having things that add a WOW factor to my decor.  I think this does just that.  I am so happy with how this turned out, and it adds tons of storage and character to our Master Bedroom.

It fits in well with all of my decor in our bedroom, and the direction I am taking the decor in that room.
Pretty dramatic before and after, don't you think???
